I’m Adrianne. I live in western Michigan with my husband and 2 kids. I work full-time, and pursue my creative passions on the side. I love to write, read, make, and bake! Happy Hour Projects is my own little corner of “me”, and I’m so glad to have you visit me here!
I married my favorite bartender back in 2009. Kevin makes me amazing martinis. I make him mow the lawn. (Come to think of it, I’m pretty lucky he puts up with our arrangement.) He’s lots of fun and always makes me laugh, even as we wade through the early years of parenthood together!
My daughter was born in 2010, and is at the age where kids say – and do – the darndest things, and she cracks me up daily. She’s still adjusting to the role of big sister and is normally very sweet (“I’m playing magic with Roman, he likes it!”) though sometimes she wishes she was the baby again (“I’m going to make him disappear.”). She loves coloring and she is always interested whenever I’m crafting. I just have to watch out that she doesn’t run away with all the washi tape.
My son was born in 2013, and is a pretty laid-back little man. He smiles at everything, and I think he is going to be a morning person – which requires a significant amount of coffee on my part. Fortunately he is crazy cute, even at 5 am.
For a long time, I didn’t consider myself creative. Put a blank canvas in front of me, and all you’re going to get is a blank stare. Growing up, our home was filled with beautiful works that my grandmother painted. I saw my younger sister drawing, sketching, and painting, and I felt that I was not artistic. Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t sad about it – it was never my passion! I preferred to build, enhance, and repurpose.
It turns out that’s just a different kind of creativity, and when I embraced that – well, this is what came of it. I’ve been making jewelry since I was 8, and I have always loved to bake. I learned to sew when I got older, then I got into scrapbooking, and these days – well, there aren’t many creative endeavors I don’t enjoy! I don’t have nearly the time I wish I did to work on the ideas I have – and that’s how the concept of Happy Hour Projects came to be.
Happy Hour Projects encourages readers to set one hour aside and get creative. Projects are usually small, tips are easy to implement, and recipes make up quickly. There are lots of photos and tips to help you learn to make things you’re interested in. Between my full-time job and my full-time family, I don’t often have more than an hour to do the things I really love! But even with the responsibilities to my kids, my husband, and my job (all of which I take seriously) – it’s still important to carve out a little bit of time in my schedule to just be me.
You’ll see a little bit of everything here – crafts, jewelry, recipes, home improvement, parenting… I’m an avid DIY-er, and that manifests in so many areas! I’m also very fortunate to have sponsors who enjoy my blog and want to know how I like their products, so you’ll see a bit of that as well. I love getting to experiment with new products, mediums, techniques, and ingredients – and then I get to write about it and share! They never said such a job existed back on career day, but I am so blessed to have found myself making a living for my family doing something I am already passionate about!
