about adrianne

AdrianneCollage

I’m Adrianne.  I live in western Michigan with my husband and 2 kids.  I love to write, read, make, and bake! Happy Hour Projects is my own little corner of “me”, and I’m so glad to have you visit me here!

I recently made the jump from working full-time to working from home.  It was a big and scary decision, but every leap of faith starts out that way, doesn’t it?  I LOVE staying home with my kids, and office-hours-during-naptime is working out better than I thought.  Our whole family is more relaxed and happy now that I cut 50 hours of stress out of my week!

my family

Kevin

I married my favorite bartender back in 2009. Kevin makes me amazing martinis, does the grocery shopping, and can always make me laugh as we wade through these early years of parenting together.

My daughter was born in 2010, and totally embodies the term “threenager”.  The girl steals my accessories and her favorite word is “no.”  Fortunately, we can always agree on craft time!  She loves paper crafts and beading.

My son was born in 2013, and is a pretty laid-back little man. He smiles at everything, and I think he is going to be a morning person – which requires a significant amount of coffee on my part. Fortunately he is crazy cute, even at 5 am.

my roots

For a long time, I didn’t consider myself creative. Put a blank canvas in front of me, and all you’re going to get is a blank stare. Growing up, our home was filled with beautiful works that my grandmother painted. I saw my younger sister drawing, sketching, and painting, and I felt that I was not artistic.  Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t sad about it – it was never my passion! I preferred to build, enhance, and repurpose.

It turns out that’s just a different kind of creativity, and when I embraced that – well, this is what came of it. I’ve been making jewelry since I was 8, and I have always loved to bake. I learned to sew when I got older, then I got into scrapbooking, and these days – well, there aren’t many creative endeavors I don’t enjoy! I don’t have nearly the time I wish I did to work on the ideas I have – and that’s how the concept of Happy Hour Projects came to be.

my blog

Happy Hour Projects encourages readers to set one hour aside and get creative. Projects are usually small, tips are easy to implement, and recipes make up quickly. There are lots of photos and tips to help you learn to make things you’re interested in. Between my full-time job and my full-time family, I don’t often have more than an hour to do the things I really love! But even with the chaos of being a family while our kids are small – it’s still important to carve out a little bit of time in my schedule to just be me.

You’ll see a little bit of everything here – crafts, jewelry, recipes, home improvement, parenting… I’m an avid DIY-er, and that manifests in so many areas! I’m also very fortunate to have sponsors who enjoy my blog and want to know how I like their products, so you’ll see a bit of that as well. I love getting to experiment with new products, mediums, techniques, and ingredients – and then I get to write about it and share!  They never said such a job existed back on career day, but I am so blessed to have found myself making a living for my family doing something I am already passionate about!

Hello, and welcome! I'm Adrianne, an artist, author, designer, and blogger in mid Michigan. I work from home, chase my two kids, and this once-city-girl is learning how to care for chickens and adjusting to life out in the country. I have a compulsion for daily creativity... sometimes it's jewelry-making, paper crafting, metal stamping, mixing and baking, or giving new life to recycled items. But with 2 young kids, time is short! My goal here at Happy Hour Projects is to share projects and tips that you can do in an hour or less. The ideas you find here are designed to add a little creativity in your day, no matter how much (or how little) time you have!
