So I’ve been a little stressed lately. Okay, a little is an understatement. I’ve been getting my zen from anywhere I can. I’ve been trying essential oils for aromatherapy and stress relief, and I have got to admit – I’m surprised at the power of fragrance! Surrounding yourself with something that smells amazing – especially while you’re doing tasks that aren’t your favorite – can make a huge difference.
So when Dawn offered to send me dish soap from their Dawn Destinations line, I found out that they get it. It smells wonderful, and it’s got the power we need for cleaning all the things we burn in our oven. (Next step of zen? Maybe getting a new oven that doesn’t burn everything, but that’s a whole other story.)
But truly – we do lots of things to surround ourselves with lovely scents, whether it’s candles or perfume… so Dawn has just applied this idea to their Destinations line. You have to wash the dishes anyway, right? Let it serve two purposes by making your kitchen smell great too!
I’ve got another great aromatherapy tip for you today, and it’s a project anyone who can thread a needle can make: an aromatherapy neck pillow!
You will need a sock, 2-3 cups of uncooked rice (not instant rice), a needle and thread, and if you like, essential oils! I’m using a peppermint and lavender combination, which both soothes and invigorates and is said to help soothe headaches.
The video below will show you how; it’s less than 10 minutes (and even faster, if you have a sewing machine). I hand-stitched mine and had it finished in under 15 minutes. If any sort of sewing is intimidating to you, consider tying a piece of yarn tightly around the end of your sock to hold the rice in, too. (The point is to stress less, right?) :)

I have made a ton of these for my kids and family and friends. I use knee high socks for this. The one thing I do though is sew it into sections so when you use it the contents stays put and doesn’t slide to one end.

I’ve been making rice bag comforters for years but making my tubes out of soft material…why didn’t I think of using a sock…duh…a great use for that single sock that appears in the wash from time-to-time!
I use Dawn all the time and will be looking for the Destination’s fragrances…how nice.
My favorite way to relax is to sit and watch the birds and squirrels play around the feeders we have provided for them. We also have deer that come into our backyard every day and we are waiting on the delivery of the new babies coming soon. We had a set of twins and triplets last year. It was a joy watching them grow over this past Winter.

When I’m at work and getting kinda tired of all the office noise and crap, I slip in the earbuds and listen to a free book I’ve downloaded from the library. Blocks out the noise and I get to relax into another world.
