I LOVE springtime colors, and I’m due for a fun mani. I know I don’t often talk about my sister, but she is the QUEEN of nail art and has been sharing such fun designs lately that I was inspired to try my own. Today’s tutorial is beginner-proof. :) You don’t need to be an experienced nail artist to play with colorblocking – why not try out this fun chevron tip design?
I’m so excited to get to partner with Sally Hansen for this post because it’s already my favorite brand of nail polish. I picked up some gorgeous spring colors recently (did you catch my shopping trip on G+? Check out my album!) and I’m going to show you how easy it is to give yourself a sassy spring mani of your own!
The colors I used for this manicure were Fuschia Flare and Silver Sweep. I love the Insta-Dri formula (I have a toddler… quick-dry is a good thing!) I gave myself an Acrylic No-Chip topcoat to protect me for a few days. French tips are great for short nails, because you can create the illusion of length with a little paint.
Wondering what’s with the washi tape? Well, I will show you below. First – give yourself a nice base coat and let it fully dry. You can tell if it’s truly dry by gently touching two nails together. If they don’t stick, you can proceed.
Now, before Raya, I could zip through french tips on myself in no time flat, freehand. I was pretty well-practiced. But I have to confess… my hands shake a lot more these days. So I gave myself a little fool-proof guideline. This is really handy for all sorts of colorblocked designs, especially if you haven’t tried nail art before. If you’re already a seasoned pro, you’ll find the tape totally unnecessary.
Just cut a small square of washi tape, and center it on your nail where you want your other color to begin.
Paint with your tip color, and remove the tape. Washi tape is ideal because it’s not super-sticky. Once it’s dry, give yourself a nice top coat to protect your new look!
Lots of fun, right?
Walgreen’s has all kinds of products and inspiration for gorgeous spring nails. Try a sweet stripes design, or any design you dream up on your own! There are some great nail sales going on now through 4/27 on Sally Hansen Extreme and Salon Effects – they’re 2/$5 right now and you get 1,000 Balance Rewards Points.

The InstaDri is our favorite. I use it on my daughter all the time and it rarely smudges. I love the chevron tip nails – they’re so fun!
