We are on three and a half years of diaper changing right now. My daughter has finally graduated out of diapers, but my son is only 11 months old, so I figure we have another year or two to go – making the diaper stage about a 5-year thing for our 2-child family.
Five years. Of changing diapers. *sigh*
I mean, I knew it came with the territory, but when I think about it… that’s a really long time. And the Diaper Genie has been part of the nursery since the beginning. Because, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but kids move fast! Especially my son. The best I can do is ditch a dirty diaper, one-handed, while I try to keep him from leaping off the changing table with the other.
Yeah. This guy. Don’t let that sweet face fool you. He can disassemble a bookshelf in under a minute. Think I’m about to give him free reign while run a dirty diaper outside? That’s just asking for trouble. :)
This one keeps me busy, that’s for sure. Don’t get me wrong, I love it! In fact, I just made the leap into working from home to get more time with my kids. But this little daredevil can’t be left unattended for any amount of time, so having diaper disposal right in his room is a must. The Diaper Genie keeps it fresh.
Speaking of fresh, I wanted to refresh the nursery a little, now that I’m home. I’ve got naptime to work on those projects I’ve wanted to get around to for a while now. A little while back, my friend Melanie over at It Happens In A Blink gave her Diaper Genie a makeover with washi tape. I loved the idea! So I took a page from her book, cut some craft vinyl, and I added a design to Roman’s Diaper Genie.
I mean, as an essential part of a functional nursery – it might as well blend in, right? It only took me about 15 minutes to update the look, and I love how it turned out!
We’ve got a tree-theme going in the nursery (as you can probably tell). It’s a design we inherited from the previous owners, and decided to keep.
The update got Mr. Curiosity’s attention, too:
If you’re a DIY-er, it’s a simple thing you can do to help your Diaper Genie blend in to the theme you’ve got going in your baby’s nursery. Actually, I can’t believe I didn’t do it sooner, given how cute it turned out. :)
Now, while we’re on the topic of makeovers – I also want to share a special offer going on right now when you buy your Diaper Genie refills at Target. After all the changing and the chasing, you can get a little pampering, too! While supplies last, you can get a $25 SpaFinder eGift Card when you buy 3 or more refills. And I definitely need a little spa time. Seriously.
Just snap a photo of your Target reciept, and visit the offer website to check out the rules and send it in. I was pumped about this offer, and it’s really easy to redeem! I even used mine already, and got my eyebrows done. (It’s the little things!!)
It’s a great reward for all the work that moms put in. And you know you’re buying refills anyway – might as well stock up, and get the extra benefit, too!
As much as I’m looking forward to NOT having to change diapers anymore, I have to say that this is still such a fun stage to see my kids. Roman is such a happy baby, and everything is amazing to him. That speed-crawler is already pulling up – he’ll be walking soon. And then jumping, climbing, launching off of furniture… my daughter never had the need for speed than my son does, so this is all new territory for me. He LOVES to play, and I love getting to play with him!
Even though I’m home now, it doesn’t mean I want to spend my time on eight diaper runs a day. The Diaper Genie makes disposal about as convenient as it gets, right next to the changing station – his room stays fresh while I have one eye on him, heading off trouble before he gets into it.
So tell me, what’s your favorite stage of parenthood?

You actually made a diaper genie look cute!! Such a fun idea :)

My favorite stage is the one where I get to sleep. :) No, I like when they are able to show affection, which is where mine are now.
