It’s no secret if you read here that I don’t cook a lot. I do love to bake and I love crafty sweet treats, but the idea of cooking a big dinner exhausts me, frankly. I work all day, and Raya and I are on our own in the evenings during the week, so by the time we make it to the table, a lot of times it’s yogurt and cereal (yes, for both of us) or takeout I grabbed on the way home. I actually have several restaurants I take out from (depending where I have to stop before making it home), and I’ve been on a big salad kick lately. No, it’s not a New Year’s thing, it’s honestly a pregnant thing, haha. :P It’s one of the few things I’m consistently hungry for. And I can easily chop my own lettuce… but I want something substantial in my salad – I need some meat, and I love all the yummy extras. And I want someone to make it for me, LOL! So when I read that Lean Cuisine is offering a new line of restaurant-quality salad additions (all you do is add your own lettuce) – I was excited to try them out. And guess what? They are AWESOME!
The quality is the same as I’d expect from a restaurant (and bonus – at a fraction of the price). The fact that they are frozen helps keep them fresh right up to the time you are ready to serve them. The dressings and toppings are *amazing* – you just bring your own lettuce! (#BYOL!)
That’s half the work there. I just needed two and a half more minutes to prepare my salad additions!
I love the variety of ingredients – for example, the Chicken & Cranberry salad also has yellow carrots, broccoli, red onions and whole grains and comes with a delicious raspberry cabernet vinaigrette and sesame sticks to top it off. I would never think to make something like that at home – that’s a restaurant combination – and Lean Cuisine knows how to keep the calories down without sacrificing flavor!
The Southwest-Style Chicken Salad was also fantastic, with beans, corn, and crispy tortilla strips with a chipotle ranch.
Lean Cuisine Salad Additions are available at Walmart. (You can even print a coupon to try them from the Lean Cuisine site, or your paper will have a coupon this Sunday!) I picked up the Southwest-Style Chicken and the Cranberry & Chicken flavors on my last trip to WalMart – I found them right on the end cap of the frozen aisle.
You can keep up to date with new offerings from Lean Cuisine by following them on Facebook or on Twitter!
