Yes, this is a potty training post. But if you’ve got kiddos potty training now, or coming up on it, it’s also a DIY-post and you might get some use out of it, so don’t be afraid, LOL. We will hardly be talking *actual* potty at all today. ;)
I’ve gotten a LOT of tips from other moms about potty training and they’ve all been really helpful. One thing that I *don’t* think will work for my daughter is candy rewards. I’m not opposed to them, for those who do use them. I just think that it will change focus for my daughter who has now become famous for holding up a finger and asking “one more?” when it comes to sweets. I foresee a tempter tantrum anytime she can only have one, and also making about twenty trips to the bathroom to try to earn a candy. So we are avoiding food-based rewards completely and sticking to… well, stickers. She LOVES stickers, and they are a lot healthier. ;)
Now the good news is, the stickers were a hit. the bad news is, she isn’t ready to potty train after all. I was really encouraged by the fact that I haven’t had to change a poopy diaper in a while, she prefers to use the potty. YAY!
But when it comes to wetting… she doesn’t seem to mind being wet. She notices but doesn’t care, so it seems she’s not so ready after all. So I will continue to ask her if she has to go, and listen when she asks to, but we are putting it on hold for a while. The biggest tip I’ve gotten – and I wholeheartedly agree – is, don’t push it if they’re not ready.
I will happily share more about what worked for my daughter when we are finally there, but it looks like it’s going to be a while. I’d still love to hear any tips you may have for kids who don’t care about wetting! But let’s get back to what we’re really talking about today – the reward stickers.
I used the 2″ round Avery labels for my stickers. You can just download a template from their website, and I designed these simple graphics to print. If you decide to buy the labels, you’re welcome to download my template and use it for yourself. Fair warning – it was a little bit fussy to line up the labels just right. But it worked for me, so if you want to try it, you’re welcome to see if it will also work for you.
Then, all I did was trim them apart so I could give one to Raya every time she was successful. And she LOVES them! Yes, they are cheesy. I’m not aiming to be clever, I’m just pandering to my audience. ;) Let me show you a couple:
What matters is – Raya loves them! ;)
Do you have any tips for the process? All kids are so different – what worked for yours?

These are so cute! I used stickers to reward my oldest son while potty training, but my middle two sons hated stickers. Odd, I know. My daughter loves stickers, and we are just starting to work on potty training with her. Yay!

What a great idea! I can hear my daughter saying “STICKER!” She just loves stickers and it might just help her along the potty road if we gave her one every time she used it. Thanks so much for sharing on We Made That!

We’ve backtracked, and not even the temptation of chocolate has helped :-(. I’m going to give this a shot!

I’m so going to try this! But my daughter likes tattoos so I think I’ll look for that tattoo paper. Thanks for the printable!

I LOVE these!! After potty training 3 all I can say is do what works for you and her. None of them are going to do it the same way, nor are they all going to be ready at a certain age. Now I still have two to go and we will be starting soon as they are both asking to use the potty. I think they would love these stickers!! I have a little chart for them to put stickers on so they can see how many days they have gone potty. Then there is a reward after x amount of days. Well that is the plan at least. ;P
