Updating Roman’s Nursery and a $100 Home Depot Giveaway!

Thank you to The Home Depot for sponsoring this post.

So we’ve been in our new house for 3 months.  Roman is nearly 3 months old now (yes, that was close, and I wouldn’t recommend moving at 8 1/2 months pregnant, haha) and we are finally getting into enough of a routine that we’re able to finally tackle some of the home improvement projects we knew we wanted to do when we bought the house.

VERY first order of business in Roman’s room – new carpet, stat!

Roman's Nursery: Before

This photo was from the first showing , right before we made our offer.  It’s a wonderful space, but that outdated red carpet just took over the whole room!  So the first order of business once the place was ours was to have new carpet installed – brown, this time – and it made a huge difference.  I sure am glad when I’m in there barefoot at 3 am to have a nice soft carpet under my feet!

The Home Depot gets this phenomenon.  Completely. Their line of SoftSpring™ Carpet is inspiring moms to step into motherhoon with durable and attractive flooring options.  It comes in over 50 styles and 28 colors, it’s protected with Scotchguard protector advanced repel technology and comes with a comprehensive warranty including lifetime stain, soil, anti-static, pet urine stain protection and more.  Because… babies and kids can get messy.  Moms know this!

The 100% premium soft nylon with twice the fiber of regular soft nylon gives SoftSpring™ Carpet an amazing soft touch.  The Home Depot also offers a lifetime guarantee on carpet installation and their installers are screened and fully insured with a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability protection, so moms can trust that it will get done right!

SoftSpring™ Carpet is machine-made in the USA and ranges in price from $2.27-$5.19 per square foot, plus installation.

I’ve been gathering some other ideas for the nursery, too.  Aside from the carpet and Roman’s things, I haven’t made many changes to the room yet.  (You can check out my Dream Nursery Pinterest board to see what I’ve been looking at!)  All I’ve done so far is touch up the existing paint and cover up some of the hand-painted additions the previous owners made – they painted quite a bit of red trying to tie in the color of the bad carpet to the room, and with that gone, I went back to the brown and blue.  Here’s how Roman’s room looks today:

Roman's Nursery: In-Progress

Big improvement, wouldn’t you say? I still have additions planned here and there (curtains, some vinyl wall art, and to give the little chest currently under the window a nice makeover) but at least the update that packs the biggest punch is finished!

The Home Depot and The Bump have partnered in a great sweepstakes offering 4 lucky moms the chance to build their dream nursery with $4700 in prizes to be won!  To enter – just visit The Bump’s Facebook page and enter the Sweepstakes area!

I would like to paint the room and add some shelves on the wall or wire racks in the closet for additional storage.

  2. Amanda says

My daughter has outgrown the nursery stage, but she could use some new blinds! She has broken hers to pieces – maybe some of those cordless honeycomb shades. Those are so pretty!

  3. Renee Kern says

Our children are out of the nursery stage, however, both of our kids’ rooms are in desperate need of new shades, the roller ones are cracked, didn’t last long at all. We would love the honeycomb ones, but they are expensive, $100 would help cut that cost.

  4. says

New carpet makes such a difference, looks great. With $100 I would add a black out cellular shade. My toddler has one from them it’s a wonderful product.

  5. Annie G says

I agree, no nursery here anymore, but my son’s room needs a new coat of paint – not sure exactly how boys manage to destroy walls so quickly!

  6. says

What a difference! I love it, it’s so adorable! Your little Mister is the cutest, I love his little (big) cheeks… ah babies, get me every time.

  7. says

Love seeing the progress you have made. Good job! And your little Roman is adorable. I have four grandsons (no girls yet) so maybe I’m a little partial to boys. He’s a cutie!

  8. says

What a tremendous difference that carpet makes, truly! CAn’t wait to see what else you end up including in the room. Fun, fun.

  9. Anastasia says

I’d love to paint and decorate, but I’d really probably add storage & shelves instead :) Necessary stuff first, before we get to the pretty stuff! :)

  10. Pat S says

My kids aren’t babies anymore but they could use an update. Would love to get a rug and update for my daughters attic room. Thanks

  11. Brianna says

I would love to add a new dresser or a shelf! And since I have been recycling wood (pallets) a gift card would come in handy for at the other things I need to complete such projects:)!

  12. Renee Richardson says

I really need to paint my daughters room and add storage. Thanks for the wonderful giveaway :)

  13. Kimberly says

We’re working on our new baby’s nursery now. His room is the only bedroom in the house that doesn’t have white crown molding. I’d like to update it to go with the rest of the house.

  14. susjc says

We don’t need a nursery redo, but I would love to purchase some new flooring for my kitchen where the little ones do a lot of walking.

  15. says

Looks so much better without that red carpet! Beautiful job!

I’d add a really sweet (and preferably washable) rug from HD for an additional color pop!

  16. April G says

My boy twin gets into everything, so we can’t have much in the nursery unless it is up high- I would LOVE to buy some shelves to put in there!

  17. says

He’s a little cutie, for sure! The beige carpet looks 100 times better than the red. My kids are past the nursery phase, but we could use a new light fixture in either of their rooms!

  18. Kellye A says

A crib! My husband and father in law will be making it…so a gift card for some lumber would be AWESOME!!!

  19. Kristen M says

I’d add bookshelves or some kind of toy storage unit. I’d love to make a creative “art” center too – with a blackboard paint wall and mural art.

  20. says

Um, so your little guy is THE cutest thing I’ve ever seen! Love those cheeks! Our boys’ room could use new carpet too! Thanks for the awesome giveaway, Adrianne!

    ~Abby =)

  21. Ashley C says

We need a rug for my son’s room, I love that Home Depot has Mohawk rugs!

  22. says

We don’t even know how old our child will be when we bring him/her home (we’re adopting) so the entire gift card would be spent on paint and maybe book shelves by the time we finally do learn who’s coming home to us!

  23. Hanna says

I’d get a bookcase for sure! Right now the books are in a big plastic bin- not very stylish!

  24. Jessica H. says

My girls need some type of storage system in their room. I was thinking of building a long shelving unit for them, so this would go towards that. Thank you for the wonderful giveaway!

  25. Donna Warrington says

I love to get my granddaughter new furniture instead of her brother’s hand-me-downs…lol

  26. Brenda Smoker says

I would add a beautiful built in bookshelf! My husband is a carpenter and he lives at Home Depot!

  27. Debbie Myers says

His room is looking great! If I won, I would start to repaint my house! Boy, it sure needs it. thanks for the giveaway!

  28. Brittany says

Definitely towards redoing the master bedroom, which was quickly (and badly) painted a really terribly deep maroon and carpeted with some weird scrap carpet (with no carpet pad)

  29. Connie Haack says

We don’t have a need for a nursery any longer but the bedroom could sure use new carpet.

  30. says

We are currently adding a built-in seating area and new table in our dining nook. Our next project is to move our 8mo squisher into her sisters’ room. I would use this gift card to buy lumbar to build a new bed for our daughter!

  31. says

Thanks for the opportunity to win a gift card from HD!

I would add some decorations to my spare bedroom for al my grands. They LOVE spending the night with Granny (me) and the rom neds more life!

PS…the link to follow you on Pinterest didn’t work. I did manage to find some of your fboards to follow though.

  32. Kim Cowgar says

My son is out of the nursery stage but could use some more storage/shelving or new window treatments

  33. says

My boys have outgrown the nursery too, but I would love to get some new blinds for their room. And, congratulations on your beautiful baby!!! His room looks wonderful! It’s amazing what a new carpet can do to transform a room. Thanks for having such a fun giveaway!

  34. Amy M says

A unified system of shelves & bins for storage. Right now it’s a mish-mash of baskets & tubs. It works, but it bothers me…

  35. says

I would buy some wood and supplies so my husband can build her a big girl bed. My husband is a great carpenter as he has built a double garage at our previous home and a huge deck here at our new home.

  36. Becca Z says

At Home Depot I would hit the lighting department for a new lamp, some soft, ambient lighting, and if there were any funds remaining I would use it toward an indoor air purifying plant, every little bit helps when it comes to health.

  37. Ambrielle Bender says

Have you seen the rain gutter book shelving? I would add some of those, and I am pretty handy and DIY savvy so I would also build a hope chest for my daughter!

  38. says

We’re currently turning it into her big girl (toddler) room! I’d use it to get the new paint, some curtains, and refinish her dresser so it’s more upbeat!

  39. says

I would add a desk, since my kids are no longer babies and now share a bigger room in our house! (I hope to make the room my home office.)
