I am right in the midst of several projects, most of which are not done yet. (Sound familiar?) But one work-in progress (decorating for Halloween) got a decent start over the weekend with the beginnings of a witchy mantel display:
I know it’s not terribly original, but it’s been SUCH a fun project. And this will likely get additions throughout the coming weeks. In fact, I have spent a LOT more than an hour playing with this already. :) I found a lot of my supplies at the dollar store, some from my miscellaneous stash, and my mom collected a couple pieces of glassware from garage sales.
I love how the little poison jars turned out. These were… well, horrible when I found them at the dollar store. Like, scary in the wrong way. They were marked down to 5 for a buck… probably because of the tractors.
But, with a quick google search on poisonous herbs, a gothic font and a page of labels, I got a great addition to my “potions lab”.
Next on my list is to whip up some spellbooks to go along, and find some more creepy fodder for my jars.
If you’re considering a smilar display, the best advice I can give is this: Be flexible about what you’re looking for. Things you might not imagine can still have potential! This is such a great thrift project if you can keep that in mind.
Thrifty rules all apply: use what you have and what you can find. Spray paint is your friend. Set a spending limit and stick to it. Be creative and just have fun. And absolutely buy eyeballs. Your display must have a jar of eyeballs.
Do you have an apothecary collection going too? Share your link with me, I still need ideas!!

Very cool idea. I love Halloween. I don't have my own place right now, but if I did I would totally decorate…not everyone has the spirit like I do.
