Classic Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Total time
  • 2 eggs
  • ¾ c. sugar
  • ¾ c. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. softened butter (or shortening)
  • 2¼ c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
  1. Preheat your oven to 375F degrees. Line baking sheets with parchment paper. This recipe yields 4-5 dozen cookies.
  2. Cream together sugars, eggs, vanilla and butter.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together flour and baking soda. Mix your flour mixture into your wet ingredients, adding a little at a time.
  4. Stir in chocolate chips.
  5. Drop by tablespoonfuls (about the size of a walnut) onto baking sheets.
  6. Bake for 8-9 minutes. For soft, chewy cookies, you will need to remove them from the oven before they look totally "done" - as soon as the edges begin to brown. For a crisper cookie, bake one minute longer. You may need to adjust baking times based on the size of your cookies, and your altitude and weather pressure (yes, it makes a difference)!
