So, raise your hand if the holidays come with a little sparkle in your house! My hand is up, and I’m going to show you a fun way to use scrapbook papers and Scotch® Expressions Tapes to create simple gift and treat boxes. Making DIY gift boxes is a great way to show that you care (without blowing the budget)!
If you keep Scotch® Brand products on-hand, then it’s easy to die-cut, punch, or trace out boxes for last-minute gifts and treats. You’re not limited to that *one roll* of wrapping paper that you just can’t seem to use up, and you don’t have to brave the store at the wrong time of day just to buy an overpriced gift box.
On your next Walmart run, swing through the paper crafting section, and grab a few rolls of Scotch® Expressions Tapes. They’re fun. They’re functional. They’re pretty. You can use them for all kinds of craft projects, not just this season, but year round!
There are lots of colors and patterns to choose from – and as you can see, I am all about the sparkle! (Come on, glitter, without the mess of actual glitter? I’m sold!) They’re in the same aisle as your other Scotch® Create essentials, like double-sided tape, craft knives, spray adhesive, and more.
Now, if you read here often, you know I’m a bit of a die-cutting addict, and for today’s boxes, I’m using a simple gift box punch board that allows you to punch and score boxes easily. If you have a favorite die, you can use that, download an electronic cut file, or if you don’t have any tools then a quick online search for “gift box templates” will bring up plenty of designs that you can trace and cut. (I’ve got a nice treat box printable template in my archives that you can use, if today’s boxes look a little daunting to you.) The main thing to know is that you can glam up ANY sturdy paper – in minutes – to take something plain and turn it totally festive.
Supplies I’m using:
- 65# scrapbook paper
- Scotch® Expressions Tapes
- Scotch® Brand Double Sided Tape
- Scotch® Brand Craft Knife
- Cardboard to protect my work surface (a craft mat works great too)
- Paper trimmer
To start, trim your paper to the size you need it – which will vary based on the size of box you’re making. My papers for this project were cut to 6×6, 7×7 and 8×8 inches. Put your paper on a piece of cardboard or a craft mat, and cover the paper with strips of sparkly (or patterned!) Scotch® Expressions Tape. I went with basic stripes, but you can mix, match, cover the paper completely – whatever suits your style best! Using your Scotch® Brand craft knife, trim away any pieces of tape that hang over the paper.
Next, I scored my paper using my punch board, but don’t forget – there are so many ways to create a paper gift box! I just happen to grab my punch board any time it’s small gift time because I’m a paper addict, and not at all ashamed to admit it.
Use Scotch® Brand double-sided tape to make the job easier. If you’re adding treats inside, you want to avoid glue wherever possible.
In minutes, you’ve got a department-store look for a fraction of the cost and best of all without even leaving home, if you keep a few Scotch® Expressions Tapes and supplies on-hand throughout the season!
I think these would be adorable placed on a co-worker’s desk, or popped into your kids’ lunch box for a special treat for birthdays, accomplishments, anniversaries and more! It allows you to give something small and simple while showing that you care with a handmade touch.
Be sure to check out more amazing crafts using Scotch® Brand products and get inspired for any season. Tell me – what do you like to make to share little gifts?

I’m sorry but you can’t copyymaking little boxes. People including myself have been making them for over twenty years.
You can however copyright the sparkle tape I don’t use that.
The sparkle boxes do look nice but I have never liked sparkle anything, especially clothing ?
Keep on crafting your cute sparkle boxes.

I found a ton of that tape on clearance and I’ve been using it for everything lately–I need find the sparkly kind. I don’t know how to die-cut, but it seems simple! I would love this for little gifts my kiddos make for their grandparents.

These turned out so cute! I love the glitter tape….glitter can be so messy (and it sticks around for a long time), so it’s good to know that I can just use the tape instead.

What I like it for is not so much general wrapping, but for things like Secret Santa, co-worker little gifts, and surprise treats. The stuff that you like to give, without making someone feel like they need to reciprocate. It shows you care when all you’re giving are a few chocolates or even a handmade jewelry gift. :)
