Do you love making handmade cards? I love layering paper, it was my first true craft love as a little kid. I couldn’t draw or paint well, but stacking and pasting paper? I was all over that! Haha. It has translated today to my own mixed media style that comes out in my jewelry and art. But sometimes? Paper on paper, making a handmade card for someone special, is a great way to spend an hour of craft time.
I’m part of a blog hop with Sizzix and CardMaker Magazine, bringing you one of 13 fabulous projects featuring cardmaking dies from Stephanie Barnard. My sister’s birthday is right around the corner, so it was the perfect way to participate in the hop, and send my sis a card full of sunshine, too!
If you’re just smitten with any of these elements and want to pick up one or more of these die sets, I’ll leave links below where you can find them. These are affiliate links, which means if you decide to make a purchase, then it supports my craft addiction and free tutorials at no extra charge to you (and thank you, by the way). If you decide to buy, be sure to use code SZB2015 to score an extra 15% off, just for being an awesome reader here at Happy Hour Projects!
Now, here’s what I used to create this happy little card:
- Sizzix Big Shot, extended platform, and standard cutting pads
- Magnetic platform
- Sizzix Framelits die set – Happy Birthday Step Up Card
- Sizzix Triplits die set – Hello Sunshine
- Sizzix Triplits die set – Kites & Sail Boat
- Sizzix Framelits die set with stamps – Tags & Words
- Sizzix Textured Impressions embossing folder – Flower Power
- Sizzix Stamper’s Secret Weapon stamping pad
- Core’dinations Brights Card Stock
- Core’dinations Pastels Card Stock
- Quick-dry paper glue
- Pink and white bakers twine
The wafer-thin Triplits and Framelits dies work best when used on the magnetic platform – to hold each die in place inside your “Sizzix sandwich”. Position the dies on your paper, and sandwich them between a pair of cutting pads. Then, just roll it through on top of the magnetic platform! No shifting or moving dies.
For this card, I just layered basic shapes from the different die sets to create a sunny, outdoor theme. I think the pink and white kite totally makes it!
On the inside, I added a simple stamped tag and an extra birthday die-cut, and wrote a quick message to my sister. I sure hope it brightens up her day. :)
Thanks for joining me today, and be sure to check out tomorrow’s featured CardMaker: Lois Bak. She’ll have tomorrow’s inspiration for you at her blog, Clownmom Creations. I think you’re going to love her sweet-inked style. You can hop through to see a new card each day, so be sure to visit Lois tomorrow and leave her a sweet comment!
There’s one last thing, so don’t hop away yet! There’s a fabulous giveaway. Super-creative work, Adrianne! You really set your projects apart with your use of the embossing folder – it’s what drew in my eye right off the bat. I’m going to have to make note of that for inspiration in my own future projects. I’m bookmarking your blog so I can visit your work again. Keep up the awesome work!

I love your designs. What surprised me the most was the embossing folder being flowers when it looked to me like water at the beach. It really took me a bit to see “flowers.” Thanks for sharing.
Adrianne says
That’s so funny – I picked it because it looked kind of bubbly, like clouds! I actually really like this embossing folder because it’s kind of abstract – I think we both just proved that, haha. Great for lots of kinds of designs, even if the designer was thinking “flowers” when she came up with it. :)
