Video Tutorial: Easy Wire-Wrapped Ring

Today’s project is a quick one – I’m going to show you how to make these simple wire-wrapped rings in under 10 minutes!  It’s a great project for those stray beads you just can’t part with, and it’s really cost effective since each ring takes just one bead and about 12 inches of wire.

Wire Wrapped Ring Video Tutorial at www.happyhourprojects.com

What you will need:

  • Ring Sizer or Mandrel
  • 20-gauge wire (I use silver-plated copper wire)
  • wire cutters
  • jewelry pliers
  • bead(s) you love – 10mm or larger generally work best

I’m actually going to give you the step-by-step by video today.  It clocks in under 7 minutes (even with how much I talk, haha) so it truly is a 10-minute-or-less project (my favorite). :)

I also want to thank everyone who’s been tuning in to Crafty Hour every other Friday and let you know, Tara and I are having fits with Google Hangouts for our broadcast, boo!  So we won’t be live tomorrow night, and we’re putting it on hold for now until we can find a better way to share what we’re up to with you.  I hope today’s tutorial still gives you the face-to-face feel that Crafty Hour delivered, and don’t forget that you can subscribe to my YouTube channel to see more personal tutorials anytime, you know, if you’re a fan of hearing me ramble on about crafts with my Michigan accent, haha.

THANK YOU so very much for such an easy to understand, easy to follow, tutorial!!
I have a large plastic 3-drawer bins stuffed full of pretty beads I’ve purchased in craft, specialty and big box stores and findings for making every different piece of jewelry I can think of, along with 6 or 7 of those big clear plastic bead organizers that are full of every size, color and type of bead imaginable, which I’ve picked up at Goodwill, etc for just a few bucks. I also have lots of different kinds of wire, cords and string. I’ve been collecting these for over 5 years and even bought a nice set of jewelry making tools a few years back. There’s something about beads, even the cheap plastic pony beads, that I’m absolutely in love with. It makes me happy just pulling everything out and looking at it! ?? BUT I’ve NEVER MADE A DARN THING! Ha!! That’s going to change today though! I’ve watched countless tutorials for making all different types of jewelry but the supposedly “beginner” projects were not even close to being easy. I’ve never been able to “get it”, because everyone goes too fast, uses the jewelry language I don’t understand (it might as well be Chinese!) or I see the video is 48 minutes long so I already know there’s too much involved for a beginner and Ithink I’ve been afraid to screw up. Talk about being discouraged!
I am GOING TO MAKE A BEAUTIFUL RING TODAY! I hope you teach classes irl, because you are EXACTLY who people like me need in order to learn, and with confidence. Your obviously sweet, easygoing nature came through in your voice and your humor made the video even more fun to watch. Laughing while learning makes EVERYTHING more fun. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. This old granny’s off to churn out some jewelry! WOOT WOOT

I just have to comment . Your tube on wrapping this ring is wonderfully done. I have warched many on jewelry making. Specially wire wrapping. I have made this ring before seeing your tube video. But I say your video is well done.

Thank you so much for this tutorial, wirework scares the living day lights out of me, but after watching this I decided to have a go and wow I’ve now got 3 rings!
Had to use rounds as no ovals in my stash, so used a Labradorite, Kunzite and a Ruby Zoisite. xx

    Great tutorial! Thanks.

Can you please tell me where you got the black ring mandrel, and is it metal or plastic? Thank you!

Mine is plastic, thoough I’ve heard people say that metal is better? I don’t use mine often enough to justify spending more money. This is the one I have: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00756ODWS/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00756ODWS&linkCode=as2&tag=haphoupro-20&linkId=QJAEEXSOD2CXHN3E

Yes, I’ve heard that metal is better myself, but since I’m just getting started in ring and bracelet shaping I figured I’d start out a little less expensively. Thank you. :-)

I actually found mine at Walmart! Don’t laugh! For the price I decided to give it n wire jewelry a try. It works for me. But then I am a beginner. Good luck

I did not try with smaller beads yet, but I think it can be done with bicone 3 mm and seed beads 15/0 as well. The result should be a smaller ring. Cut the nylon thread around 90 cm. Hello, and welcome! I'm Adrianne, an artist, author, designer, and blogger in mid Michigan. I work from home, chase my two kids, and this once-city-girl is learning how to care for chickens and adjusting to life out in the country. I have a compulsion for daily creativity... sometimes it's jewelry-making, paper crafting, metal stamping, mixing and baking, or giving new life to recycled items. But with 2 young kids, time is short! My goal here at Happy Hour Projects is to share projects and tips that you can do in an hour or less. The ideas you find here are designed to add a little creativity in your day, no matter how much (or how little) time you have!
