Guest Blogger Morena’s Corner: DIY Photography Idea

Good morning everyone!  I have a couple of guests this week for you with great projects (seriously, I’m so excited) that are just in time for Mother’s Day this weekend!  How many of you are still working on your projects?  (You can’t see from where you’re sitting, but I just raised my hand… it’s drying right now as I write this.  I’ll be putting the finishing touches on, and showing you all on Thursday morning!)

This morning, Morena’s Corner is going to show you an awesome photography prop idea (I can’t wait to try this myself!)  Thanks so much for sharing, Morena!

~ Adrianne

Hello!  My name is Morena Hockley and I am thrilled to be sharing a project with you today!  I blog at Morena’s Corner, where I share tutorials for items I have created.  I am a mom to four awesome kids, and since time and resources are tight, most of my tutorials are for projects that are quick and thrifty.  I make a lot of different things, but I really enjoy decorative home items, like my DIY blue mercury glass

and my jute flower centerpiece.

I hope you’ll drop by Morena’s Corner to see what else I have to share!

Today I want to share a quick and inexpensive photo gift that would be perfect for Mother’s Day!  I made these for Valentine’s Day this year, but I think they would be great for any other gift giving occasion.

You will need a platter, letters to spell out the word you want, and your children (or pets…that would be cute, too!)

I bought my platter at the Dollar Tree, and cut my letters using my Silhouette machine.  I taped each letter as needed to the platter.

I have four kids, so I used the word “love”.  If you have one child, s/he could hold each letter.  With two kids, alternate and have them hold two letters each.  Three kids, spell “mom”…there are tons of possibilities!

Take a bunch of pictures of each kiddo.  I always start with “silly face” pictures to get them warmed up.  I ended up liking the silly pictures so much that I made two versions of my collage, a sweet one and a silly one!

After I had chosen the pictures I wanted, I used my photo editing software (Preview on my Mac) to crop the pictures and print all four onto one 4 x 6 card.  You could also print each picture and cut them individually to fit your collage.

I made simple cards with cardstock, ric rac, and embellishments.  And I kept one for myself, to frame.

By the way…do you love my magnetic chalkboard frame as much as I do?  Check out my Facebook fan page to learn how to get one!

Thank you so much for letting me visit!  I hope you enjoyed my tutorial and that you’ll visit me at my crafting corner!

I think the platter is just perfect for your four sons. I love the idea of it. Would have been perfect for me as well if I had 4 kids but I only got one. But thanks for the great ideas.

I love your idea of using platters to spell out the word 'love'. It gives spice to the picture. Keep it up!

Hello, and welcome! I'm Adrianne, an artist, author, designer, and blogger in mid Michigan. I work from home, chase my two kids, and this once-city-girl is learning how to care for chickens and adjusting to life out in the country. I have a compulsion for daily creativity... sometimes it's jewelry-making, paper crafting, metal stamping, mixing and baking, or giving new life to recycled items. But with 2 young kids, time is short! My goal here at Happy Hour Projects is to share projects and tips that you can do in an hour or less. The ideas you find here are designed to add a little creativity in your day, no matter how much (or how little) time you have!
