Tea Towel Tutorial by Jessie Street Designs

Adrianne – you’re awesome!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for sharing the stage with me, I’ve been following your blog for a while now, so this is a real treat to be guest posting today!  I’ve had a fun time preparing this tutorial for you and it’s also been so nice getting to know you better:) 

Today, I am going to share with you my way of dressing up plain bar mops to use as your tea towels.  This is an easy, fun and quick project.  I whipped up two of these in about 30 minutes (and it would have been quicker had I not had to re-thread the bobbin!)  Give this a try, you won’t be disappointed and everyone you know is going to want one….(or at least the ones that have really great taste will!!)

First of all, you need to gather your supplies.

**Make sure to wash and iron your fabric and bar mops BEFORE the fun begins.  SPECIAL NOTE: Let’s not get too crazy….you don’t have to iron the bar mops, but I did since I left them in the dryer overnight and they were a bit wrinklely….you be the judge.

Step 1- Decide how you would like your tea towels to look and cut the fabric and trim to fit accordingly across the bar mop.  When you are cutting the fabric, make sure that you leave a seam allowance….mine was approx. 1 inch.

Step 2 – Pin the fabric and trim together.  Using your sewing machine, sew a basting stitch. **To sew a basting stitch, change the stitch settings to it’s widest stitch (level 5). 

Step 3 – Tuck all the raw edges under and IRON – this will help everything lay flat and make it much easier to sew to the bar mop.  Lay fabric and trim back onto bar mop and pin into place.

Step 4 – Sew everything together (1/4-1/2 inch).   You’re done….Congratulations, you did it!!!  You’ve taken some boring old bar mops and made them into something beautiful!!

And just because I couldn’t stop at one, here’s the other one I made…aren’t they cute – I love them!
