Diet is a 4-letter word. Seriously. I don’t diet, it’s impossible for me. As soon as I try to be strict with myself, all I want are things I can’t have, I obsess about the pounds… I think I end up eating even worse! So, for me, it works much better to just focus on healthier eating, and keep a few indulgences. I just swap out for smarter choices anytime I can. One of my weaknesses has always been ice cream. So when I got the chance to sample the new Skinny Cow Ganache Ice Cream Cones from Nestle, it was a no-brainer. Yes. Yes, I would love to sample a new ice cream treat! It’s limited edition? Even better! It’s a Skinny Cow treat? Best yet!
I am probably never going to give up ice cream. My first job was in an old-time ice cream parlor – you know, the kind with a soda fountain and 30 flavors of ice cream? But when there are small portions and lower-fat options like fluffy chocolate ganache, it makes me feel a lot better about treating myself. It’s a great way to indulge and feel good about treating yourself! Give yourself a little gift with one of these heavenly cones!!
Okay, okay – maybe the bow is a bit much. But if it weren’t meant to be a special treat… why would it come in shiny paper to unwrap? Hmmmm?
So, maybe that all tells you my feelings on ice cream. And when you have feelings for a food, it’s awfully hard to think that you can’t have it. Which brings me back to why I don’t diet… there’s no such thing as an ice-cream diet. Or if there is, it’s not really a very smart diet to be on, haha. Just focusing on making smart substitutions (like one of these fabulous low-fat cones, instead of your pint of choice, for example) helps me feel good about what I’m eating. All this is a big topic for me this year because I’ve had to pay a lot of attention to my weight. If you read here often, you probably know I had a 10 lb. 12 oz. son this summer. No, I’m not kidding. In fact, he’s still a big guy – he’s in 12-month clothes already at 4 months old!
I was ravenous when I was pregnant – so between trying not to gain too much while pregnant, and then to take the baby weight back off… I feel like I’ve spent a lot more time on the scale than normal this year. My goal is just to get back into a healthy eating routine, to ditch the scale, and just feel good all the way around. It’s not a new year’s resolution – it’s a whole lifestyle. One where treating myself here and there is fine, as long as I’m making smart choices overall. Sounds WAY less stressful than “dieting”, doesn’t it?
These ganache ice cream cones will be available at select Walmart stores, starting this week and into 2014. If you’re trying to find a way to be smart when you treat yourself, these are a must-try! You know, bows optional, of course.

I grew up eating ice cream…homemade ice cream! Needless-to-say, there were no fillers, only the real stuff. My dad enjoyed a bowl of ice cream almost every night until he passed away at the age of 90. Ice cream is my husband’s and my usual treat of choice and we try to find brands that use all natural ingredients. I’m really anxious for us to try the Skinny Cow Chocolate Mint Ganache Ice Cream Cones since our flavor of choice, 9 times out of 10, is mint chip ice cream. Oh, I can’t wait!!!
