I’m a mom of little kids, which means we rarely get to the theater to see a movie. We always mean to, we want to, we plan to, and then someone gets sick, we can’t find a sitter… if you’re a parent of little kids (or have been through that stage) you know what I’m talking about. So when new movies premiere on DVD, we watch for that even closer than theater release dates. That’s our family’s movie premiere! We’ve been looking forward to Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier for a while now, and we were really excited to add it to our Marvel movie collection on Tuesday! The Avengers are my favorite superheroes, by far – it’s hard to choose a favorite because all the characters are so well done. My daughter loves Captain America, though, so for our movie premiere, I put together some M&M’s® treat boxes to enjoy!

Too much? (No, I didn’t think so. Captain America ALWAYS looks good, haha.) This is a VERY easy recipe for snack mix that’s both sweet and salty, and you can print out special shields for your kids below! It’s a fun addition to treat boxes – you can make your own from scrapbook paper (like I did), or add them to any small containers to make your kid feel like a hero!
Start with M&M’s. (And right now, Walmart has a printable coupon for $5 off your M&M’s and Captain America 2 purchase!)

On my last #CollectiveBias trip to Walmart, I picked up a few varieties of M&M’s: Peanut Butter, the Classics, and the Minis. I just used the classic M&M’s for our mix, but feel free to mix it up if you have a favorite or a new flavor you want to try!

I used my Silhouette to cut paper treat boxes (I bought the pattern for $0.99 to keep snack-time as quick and easy as possible!) Other places to check for treat boxes are at your dollar store, or your favorite store’s dollar section! Popcorn boxes would be perfect, being red and white already.

Click the shield below to download a printable sheet of shields that you can cut and apply to your treat boxes – or give them to your kids to wear as badges! (Tip: print them on white cardstock or sticker paper for a more durable badge.)
Finally, whip up some M&M’s Movie Mix with this recipe as a guideline!

- ½ c. Classic M&M's
- ½ c. pretzels
- ½ c. cocktail peanuts
- ½ c. raisins
- ½ c. dried apples
- ½ c. dried strawberries
- Mix all ingredients together in one big bowl - and feel free to substitute other fruits or omit nuts as your family likes.
- Serve ½ c. servings. Increase measurements in equal parts as necessary to serve a bigger crowd!
Finally, fill your treat boxes, and enjoy movie night. (And for the record, my husband was excited that I made a box for him, too, and not just the kids. Haha.)
