Mod Podge Gift Box

If you caught yesterday’s post, you probably saw a preview of this little gift box!  It’s so fun and springy and you can customize it any way you like.  Let me show you how!

Mod Podge Gift Box

What you will need to dress up your own gift box:

  • A paper mache gift box
  • Scrapbook paper
  • Mod Podge & a Paintbrush
  • Decorative knob (I made my own using this knob base and a glass cabochon)
  • An awl for putting a hole in your box top
  • Optional Paint or other embellishment

First, let me give you some tips for Mod Podge if you don’t work with it often.  Cut your paper, and then add Mod Podge to the backside of the paper itself.  When paper gets wet, it expands.  You want it to set for a few minutes before adding it to your box to help minimize the bubbles.

Then, add it to your box.  I just went all the way around and didn’t bother with the bottom. ;)  I also trimmed up a piece for the top and ‘Podged that on.  You’ll notice a few bubbles here but when it dries all the way, they disappeared.

I made my own matching knob – I used a make-your-own knob base and added a cabochon.  It was perfectly sized to the circles on my scrapbook paper!  I used Mod Podge on this part too – just attached it to the underside of the cab.

When my box was mostly dry, I used an awl to poke a hole in the top so I could attach the knob.

I screwed the knob base on –

And used some Amazing E6000 to add the cab on top.

And that’s it!  Simple and springy.

A note – I wasn’t compensated for this post, though I did receive free product to craft with.  In fact, you can too!  If you like the knob, then be sure to check out the giveaway to D. Lawless Hardware going on all week! ;)
