I showed you yesterday how to make an easy pair of earrings using jewelry connectors and jump rings, with a charm you make yourself. Well, today I’m going to show you the rest of the matched set with this easy necklace. And today? I’m going to show you how to make your OWN connector. Connectors are fun, and as they suggest – they connect two jewelry components together. They are usually decorative and they add a little bit of flair, sparkle, or color to what can be an otherwise boring piece. This connector is quite simple – it just adds a little bit more color and variety to the already beautiful pendant.

What you will need:
- Connectors that you love. I found mine at Consumer Crafts for $2.97 for the set (score!)
- 18-gauge silver plated copper wire
- Wire cutters
- Round-nosed pliers
- Jump Rings
- Coordinated bead (this is 12mm)
- 18 inches of 2mm chain and a clasp – I used both a hematite tone and a silver tone to make a double chain
First – you’ll be making your beaded connector. This is very similar to making a charm. When you make a charm, you use a pre-made head pin. For a connector you need a loop on both ends, so you’ll cut about a 5 inch length of wire.
I neglected to show the first loop in the photos below, but you use the same process: loop one end of the wire over your round-nosed pliers, and wrap the small end around the wire a couple of times. Nip off any excess. Then, add your bead, and repeat the process on the other side. You’ve just made your own connector!
Then, attach the two pieces together with a jump ring. You can use a pre-made chain, or make your own chain (which is what I did). Making your own chain is so easy – just cut it to the length you want, and use a jump ring to attach a clasp to one end. Just add a jump ring to the other end for the closure – that’s it!
String your connector onto your chain, and you have a fast and easy necklace – that you made yourself!
Beautiful necklace. I have small connectors that are flat on the back, trying to make a necklace using 3 of them connecting them to chains and other connectors. It turned out really nicely, but now the connector flat backs are always flipping over. How do I avoid this? Would love some advice. Thank you so much!
