Bird Crazy Bird Cage Necklace

12/14/2015 by Adrianne Surian 12 Comments

So today’s project isn’t exactly a partridge in a pear tree, but if you’re on the Bird Crazy bandwagon, I’ve got a fun jewelry idea for you.  I love both paper crafting and jewelry making, and this is kind of a crossover project that will really get your wheels turning!

Now, if you’re not (yet) on the Bird Crazy bandwagon – that’s okay too.  Any of your favorite stamp and small die sets are still perfectly suited to this idea.  If you aren’t typically a paper crafter and you don’t know the Bird Crazy line at all, then I’ll tell you a secret: the paper crafters are swooning over these silly little guys designed by Tim Holtz.

You can make your own Bird Crazy necklace using a few supplies from Blitsy Crafts – where I’m sharing the full tutorial this week.  If you aren’t familiar with Blitsy – you should be!  It’s an online retailer of discount craft supplies, with flash sale events and everyday deals on the staples you need to stock your craft room.

You can shop Blitsy anytime to save (you know, on everything you’re buying anyway), or stop over for inspiration at their creative blog (where I’m also a design team member)!  You can catch the tutorial for using your favorite dies to make jewelry, and shop for any supplies you may still need while you’re there.  If you sign up and place your first order within 24 hours, you even get $10 off that order.  (Yep – free craft supplies!  Does it get better than that?)

Come on over, say hi, and check out the easy how-to.  Hope you had a great weekend!

I have never heard of Blitzy. Good find. I know both my 5 and 10 year old would love to create something like this. They are so over the coloring books and things like that. We do a lot of DIY crafts with flowers and re-purpose things that no longer have any use to us. The kids totally love it. my kids love animals so I know they will like this as well.. Good Job.

Love this idea. My kids are BIG animal fans so having something like this for them is a very cool idea. I am looking forward to seeing your tutorial!

This is a cute idea! You could do a little cage with any kind of animal or your child’s favorite character.

They’re a discount craft supply retailer. Etsy has plenty of suppliers, but I don’t find that you get very good discounts there? Blitsy runs sales for a few days on different items and that’s the best time to buy – all the stuff on your list anyway, at a discount. You just have to watch the sales and jump while they have stock. And it’s not closeout stuff, either – it’s the newest trends too! Like this particular set of dies was on sale for Black Friday at the best price I’ve seen it anywhere, and it the design was just released a couple of months ago!

Hello, and welcome! I'm Adrianne, an artist, author, designer, and blogger in mid Michigan. I work from home, chase my two kids, and this once-city-girl is learning how to care for chickens and adjusting to life out in the country. I have a compulsion for daily creativity... sometimes it's jewelry-making, paper crafting, metal stamping, mixing and baking, or giving new life to recycled items. But with 2 young kids, time is short! My goal here at Happy Hour Projects is to share projects and tips that you can do in an hour or less. The ideas you find here are designed to add a little creativity in your day, no matter how much (or how little) time you have!
