Blog Tips: Are You noreply-comment@blogger.com?

02/19/2012 by Adrianne Surian 55 Comments

I’m on a roll this weekend with my blog tips.  Yesterday I showed you how to turn off word verification on your comments section.  But there’s another aspect of commenting that I’d like to bring your attention to: when someone leaves you a sweet comment, or asks you a question, and you go to email them back to thank them – only to discover it came from noreply-comment@blogger.com.  So now you wonder where to chase them down to reply, or if you should, or if you can even find them.  I’m surprised at how many bloggers don’t leave a way for you to easily visit or respond!

I enjoy emailing back to people who visit me and take the time to say something nice about my post or about my blog.  (Raise your hand if you’ve exchanged a half-dozen emails in a day with me, just because you said something nice about my post?  Or I’ve commented on yours?  LOL!)  All of my best blog-friendships started with a simple comment, and then a reply, and then sometimes several replies.  In fact, there are some of you who drop by regularly that I would love to get to know better – but you are set to no-reply!

You may not know you’re set to no-reply.  Blogger defaults err on the side of your privacy on this one, and I can understand that not everyone who leaves comments wants their email address available to the blog owner for a response.  I can respect that.  But if you’re not currently getting email replies and you think you would like to, take a moment to check your settings now!

The settings are in your Blogger Profile.  First, go to your dashboard.  You’ll find your blogger profile by dropping this menu down.

Choose your Blogger profile.

**Update** Thanks to Kelley from Miss Information for getting some additional info – you may have your profile tied to your Google+ profile, not your Blogger profile.  If this is the case, you will need to temporarily switch back to Blogger Profile to manage this setting.  If you find you are going straight to G+ instead of to your profile to manage your settings, use the lower drop-down menu and choose “Revert to Blogger Profile” (you can switch back to G+ when you are done by going to the same menu).

Now we should all be in the same place. :)  Edit your profile by clicking here:

And click the box that says “show my email address”.  By choosing other options, like “share my profile”, people will also better be able to find your blog when you leave them a comment and don’t leave your link.

I hope you’ve found these tips helpful.  I don’t normally get into blog advice here (because I’m far from being an expert!) but these were topics on my mind this weekend.  I don’t know everything, but I enjoy finding out, so anytime you have a question, please feel free to ask!

Now, comment away, but please make sure I have a way to reach you!! ;)

I link up to these great parties!
~ Adrianne

Adrianne, Please help me with this. I feel irresponsible when it comes to replies because I try to pop over to their blog and leave a comment. Is that wrong to do? Also, when I try to go to my blogger profile it only pulls up my google profile, which goes straight to google +.

It sort of feels too complex and extremely huge for me.

I am a new blogger too. I started my blog several years ago but my sister managed it. I did get an email from one of the blog hoppers who said I was a no reply person. I went to my profile and it did say show my email. I did notice on some sites that my email address came up and on other it just said signed in as Margaret google account. I dont know why the difference.

I do like to respond via e-mail and have made the same experience as you did with nice chats that way, though I also reply to comments directly in the comments for those that come later – but honetly, who goes back to each of his comments to see if there's a reply…

This might sound totally dumb, but how do you, as the blogger, reply to comments people leave on your blog via e-mail? I know how to reply under their original comment, and I know I have my settings so people can reply to me via e-mail. But I'm not sure how to respond to other people's comments by e-mail.
