Comfort Food and #ComfortsFromHome For Our Troops

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Marie Callender’s for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I don’t know what it is about pie, but pie is pretty much the food equivalent of love, in my book.  I mean, think about it – we have pie on special occasions, surrounded by people we care about.  It’s a sweet dessert during the holidays.  It’s a savory Sunday dinner.  It’s comfort food of the very best kind.  That said, I don’t often have time to bake pies.  I’m more a Marie Callender’s kind of girl.  I love picking up the small pies and mini pies on my regular shopping run, and bringing them out one serving at a time as a special treat.

My daughter has picked right up on this: “I brought you a pie while you work, mama!” she says. “And I brought two forks so we can share.”

Stinker.  Of course, I could not say no.  Nobody says no to pie, of course.  That’s why I get  the mini’s in the first place.  A little treat, especially when shared, is always a bit of happy.

The thing is (and I’m going to get serious for a minute, here) is that not all families get to spend their days together – and I specifically mean our troops stationed overseas.  I have a cousin deploying to Afghanistan next month, and lots of veterans in my family, so I always love when I see brands that have easy ways to to support our troops.  Marie Callender’s Comforts From Home program gives a 50 cent donation per product to USO2GO, a USO program that provides home-comforts like books, games, sporting equipment and furnishings to remotely stationed service men and women.

All you have to do is enter your code from specially-marked Marie Callender’s products (and our favorite little pies are included!) on the Comforts From Home website, and Marie Callender’s will make a donation.

Yes, that’s right – you enjoy pie (or another of your favorite comfort foods), and you also support the troops.  Win-win.  And it’s SO easy.

You can enter up to five every day between now and 1/31/2015, and for each one (up to $250,000) Marie Callender’s will donate $0.50 to the cause!  You can learn all about the program and get more details at the Comforts From Home site.

Want to do even more to help the cause?  Follow the Marie Callender’s Facebook page!  Through the Facebook page, Marie Callender’s will be launching a social blitz support by their customers who care!  Using the Thunderclap app, you can sign up to have a message shared or tweeted reminding all your friends or followers to enter those codes and drive donations to the Comforts From Home project.

The next time you think about how pie pretty much equals love, don’t forget that you’ve got the power to help spread the love all over the globe.  Sharing a sweet treat can do all kinds of good!

Hello, and welcome! I'm Adrianne, an artist, author, designer, and blogger in mid Michigan. I work from home, chase my two kids, and this once-city-girl is learning how to care for chickens and adjusting to life out in the country. I have a compulsion for daily creativity... sometimes it's jewelry-making, paper crafting, metal stamping, mixing and baking, or giving new life to recycled items. But with 2 young kids, time is short! My goal here at Happy Hour Projects is to share projects and tips that you can do in an hour or less. The ideas you find here are designed to add a little creativity in your day, no matter how much (or how little) time you have!
