Dad Is Doin’ Good

Oh, the pressure of being a parent. Raise your hand if you can relate! I’m certainly feeling it. There’s something about this age my kids are at, where they are soaking up every little detail, learning, repeating, imagining, and creating… Are we doing enough? Are we helping them grow into the people we hope they’ll be? Or are we missing opportunities when we’re dead tired, don’t feel like cooking, letting them watch cartoons for three hours straight? Minute Maid® knows what we’re going through, and they’re sponsoring today’s post on parenting with this message: Moms and Dads, you’re doin’ good.

Dad's Doin' Good! | A Father's Day Tribute at www.happyhourprojects.com #doingood

Actually these days it feels like Kevin has more patience for our kids than I do. Maybe it’s because we’re coming up on Father’s Day, and it’s on my mind more lately, but I’m noticing he has reserves of patience that I don’t always have. He plays longer than I do with the kids, most of the time, and has a lot of fun ideas to keep them entertained. And he’s quick to laugh, and live in the moment.

See, I struggle a lot when I get up to a picture that looks something like this:

Yesterday’s mess on the floor. Kids taking a lazy morning. But Kevin will take a morning like this, and say, “let’s make waffles!” He’s so easygoing. But I know, he struggles too, wondering if he’s doing enough, or doing the right things.

I think it’s just part of parenting – that self doubt, sometimes. There’s so much to juggle, it’s like you can’t get all the balls in the air at the same time. But what our kids will remember is not the messy living room, or us sneaking naps while cartoons are on. They will remember the waffle mornings and the times that we were having fun. They’ll remember the holidays.

They’ll remember the times they got to stay up late.

And they’ll remember the little things.

Because we’re probably doing better than we think.

Check out the newest video from my friends at Minute Maid® celebrating dads. Share it with the friends and family in your life who could use a reminder that they, too, are doing a great job as a parent.

I was really inspired by this. But it’s one thing to realize for yourself that things are pretty darn good – and it’s another to take the time to remind someone else that they are doin’ good too. So I took a cue from Minute Maid®, and I asked my kids a few questions about their dad this Father’s Day. I’m no professional interviewer, but I think my husband is going to be every bit as grateful to hear what his own kids have to say about him, at age 1 and 4.

I challenge you to do the same this Father’s Day, and be sure to tell dad he’s doin’ good. Even when deep down, we know we’re doing our best, it can mean the world to hear it from the people we love!

Hello, and welcome! I'm Adrianne, an artist, author, designer, and blogger in mid Michigan. I work from home, chase my two kids, and this once-city-girl is learning how to care for chickens and adjusting to life out in the country. I have a compulsion for daily creativity... sometimes it's jewelry-making, paper crafting, metal stamping, mixing and baking, or giving new life to recycled items. But with 2 young kids, time is short! My goal here at Happy Hour Projects is to share projects and tips that you can do in an hour or less. The ideas you find here are designed to add a little creativity in your day, no matter how much (or how little) time you have!
