Spring is slowly arriving here in Michigan. We finally had some warm days last week to help melt away the huge snow piles (although it snowed again yesterday, boo!) but now you can see almost the whole yard! I’m getting so excited to get outside and dig in the dirt. How about you? I’ve been combing for new ideas this year trying to get ready, and I’m excited to share that I’ve teamed up with The Home Depot to show you some awesome spring DIY projects this season!
We have a LOT of work to do in the yard every spring. Anyone who winters in an area with snow knows exactly what I mean: the grass is seeing the sun for the first time since Halloween, and everything starts out brown and smushed by the weight of the winter.
Gardening is something I enjoy with my mom. I do NOT have a natural green thumb, but she definitely does! Learning from her has been a wonderful way for us to spend time together, getting our hands dirty and decorating with Mother Nature’s beautiful elements – flowers, plants, and trees. But every year, this is what we start with in my mom’s garden:
I’m limited for space in our condo, so I generally stick to smaller projects like patio planters – which this winter patio is nearly ready for! We’re just about past the risk of frost (we still had some over the Easter weekend) and I’m SO ready to put out something beautiful!
I can’t wait to show you the “after” shots, once we shake the last of this freezing weather and dig in! There are some beautiful projects on the Home Depot Garden Club website, and projects for yards of all types, whether your space is large or small, whether you love flowers or vegetables, and there are even cool wildlife observation stations. I’ve got my eye on this beautiful flower tower for the patio:
And my mom and I have been talking about building a butterfly garden for years now. This year, Raya is at the perfect age to enjoy it! There are also projects for other garden friends, like bee boxes and bird feeders!
Joining the Garden Club at Home Depot has its own benefits, too, like $300 in email-exclusive savings each year, and $5 off your first purchase of $50 to get your garden started. Emails include sneak peeks of new products, advice from Home Depot’s gardening experts, and lots of ideas to make your yard beautiful as you #DigIn to spring with the world’s largest garden community!
We are really excited to get started outdoors – it has been a LONG winter this year.

I’m itching to start planting for Spring and to put our garden together! Hoping to get to do that in the next few weeks and we are definitely shopping at Home Depot to do just that!
Can’t wait to see what you create!
I wish we had snow down here! Im jealous. :)
Really excited to see what you do in your mom’s garden and on your patio! I love the Home Depot – it’s a regular date night spot for me and the hubs ;)
This is our first spring in our house, so I’m dying to get my front yard and porch all dressed up with flowers and stuff. :) Thanks for the link to the Garden Club – I’ll definitely be checking it out for inspiration!
Now I, too, want a Butterfly Garden!! Can’t wait to see the after photos!:)
Oh girl! Y’all still have snow! That’s crazy! The patio looks great though!
I noticed the stock outside Home Depot yesterday and have been cleaning up my garden to make space. I was not aware there is a garden club open to everyone, good to know. to Tara, I grew up in West Texas and my mom still lives out there. It’s true those strong winds and heat make it hard to have a lush wetlnd garden, but we manged to use native plants mums and hardy roses on the east side of our house quite successfully along with some cool ornamental non plant items. I bet the garden club there could give you some great advice on low maintenance gardening.
PS. check out the native sage blooming on my blog today.
I’m jealous… I want a little snow! Your porch looks so inviting and so ready for spring.
Had no idea there was a gardening club at Home Depot. Good to know!
Arg! So jealous! Our last date for frost isn’t until at least Mother’s Day. I can’t wait to see your reveal! I love Home Depot’s garden club! The coupons they send are awesome!
I am so excited about planting as well! We live on the 2nd floor in an apartment, but have a porch that gets the perfect amount of sunlight, so container gardening, here I come! Home Depot is where I always go for my gardening needs!
Hooray for spring!! Love those flowers, and a butterfly garden would be amazing!
I can’t wait until I can sit out and do nothing except watch the butterflies. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
I’m checking out the garden club! Thanks for the information.
I have been out working in the yard the last couple of weeks. It is so nice to be out again. I can’t wait to see how all your plans turn out! I love the flower tower, so pretty!
I can’t wait to start checking out the garden stores in my nearby area. Unfortunately, it won’t be anytime soon as we have still a lot of snow on the ground and it is still cold up north.
We are also awaiting the arrival of spring. Its just not showing its face at all.
looking forward here to see your project
I am so excited for Spring too! Can’t wait to see the after pics!
It’s so funny how different things are across the country. I live in West Texas, and spring for me means periodic intense wind/dust storms that can affect visibility (“brown outs”) and coat everything with dirt. It’s the last time I would want to be outside working on projects. I think that’s why a lot of people here don’t have gardens–also the summer sun kills a lot of plants. Anyway, it doesn’t keep most people from working on stuff. I’m just not from around here and a wimp. :) I’m a little jealous of your plans for the season! Keep us posted how they come along.
Oooooh, I can’t wait to see what you do! Especially a butterfly garden! We love planting a veggie garden every year as well as flowers, and I can’t wait for it to warm up enough to get started!!
Excited to see what you do! I also don’t have a green thumb for plants and gardens. I can work magic with cut flowers.
A butterfly Garden will be so much fun! Can’t wait to see your finish!!! Come on Spring! :)
Wow, a gardening club at Home Depot! I never knew they had this. I’m going to check it out to learn more…if it’s half as good as their other classes and kids workshops, I’m there! :)
This is such a happy post. Yay spring. Definitely checking out the garden club.
