Easy Gothic-Inspired DIY Hair Pins

Hey friends! This week is Halloween, so it’s going to be a busy one with the family.  I’m kicking this week off with a SUPER easy project that I made from my Blueberry Cove October Bead Box.  I only had a few minutes in the studio, and this one definitely fits the bill.  Before drying time, you can make these hair pins in about a minute!

If you haven’t heard of Blueberry Cove Beads, they’re a partner of Happy Hour Projects.  It’s a monthly subscription box filled with a themed selection of beads and jewelry making components.   Full disclosure: they don’t pay me to advertise for them, or any commission if you check it out, but I do get a free bead box each month for sharing what’s inside with all of you.   Each month, the theme is a surprise, and in October, the theme was Victorian Gothic.  While I can’t wait to get my hands on these beads to make some pretty accessories, I knew as soon as I spotted the black rose cabochons, that’s what I was going to use first.

Supplies needed:

  • 18 mm Flat-back black rose cabochons (from my Blueberry Cove box)
  • Filigree-style blank hair pins
  • Heavy-duty adhesive (I like Gutermann Glue)

Any adhesive advertised for bonding metal to other surfaces will work for this project (like E6000) but I prefer Gutermann glue because it’s less messy with less odor, and bonds just as well.  I get mine on Amazon.

Just add a small amount to the back of the cab, and attach it to the center of the hair pin blank.  That’s it!  Just let it dry for at least an hour.

Hope you’ve got a fun week planned!  I have a little unicorn and Captain America to entertain this week leading up to Halloween.  See you guys again soon!

Love these hairpins! They are just my style. I’m not gothic, but those black flowers just call to me.

So cute! For some reason I am just no good at craft though. I try and try but unfortunately I didn’t inherit my Mom’s craftiness.

Hello, and welcome! I'm Adrianne, an artist, author, designer, and blogger in mid Michigan. I work from home, chase my two kids, and this once-city-girl is learning how to care for chickens and adjusting to life out in the country. I have a compulsion for daily creativity... sometimes it's jewelry-making, paper crafting, metal stamping, mixing and baking, or giving new life to recycled items. But with 2 young kids, time is short! My goal here at Happy Hour Projects is to share projects and tips that you can do in an hour or less. The ideas you find here are designed to add a little creativity in your day, no matter how much (or how little) time you have!
