Fall Home Trends: Mad for Plaid!

This post is promoted by Target.

Well, here we are – it’s finally fall!  I do love summer, but I feel like fall is just the best when it comes to style.  If you’re experimenting with some fall home trends, you’ve got to see what Target is rolling out this season.  I just shopped last week, and I went a little mad for plaid.  I’m loving it!

So, here’s the thing:  I’m not all that bold when I choose my decor pieces.  I typically play by the rules.  I’ll drool over someone else’s edgy style, but I’m really pretty classic when it comes to what I put in my home.  I like things that will stay popular for more than just one season.  And what’s cool is that this season’s plaid collection is a bit of both worlds – you can find great modern pieces and timeless patterns.

What I love most about the accent pieces I found for the living room are that they fit my earthy style, with woolly fabrics and warm earth tones.  I tried something a little different, and I mixed and matched a few patterns, and brought in a beautiful rusty orange.

I love the green accent wall that we have in our living room, but I’ve avoided adding any bold colors to the room so it doesn’t clash.  This season, I finally decided to take a step outside my comfort zone.  And it totally works!  The green and orange reminds me of pumpkins and autumn leaves, making the living room feel nice and cozy for the season.  I am loving it.

It may be breaking the rules a bit to incorporate several patterns at once, but plaid works with plaid even more than I expected.  And with all the options, it’s easy to test out a new look with a few accents to see how you like it!  (And the great thing about shopping at Target is that you can shop the trends without breaking the bank.)  There’s plaid for every room this season – you can try it in the kitchen with great new dishes and serving pieces; in the bedroom with new bedding and storage, and in the living room with pillows, throws, lampshades, furniture, accent pieces, and more.

Target accessories featured in this post:

Threshold Oversized Plaid Throw Pillows – Brown
Threshold Plaid Throw Pillow – Orange
Threshold Plaid Throw Blanket – Orange
Threshold Global Round Decorative Basket

How about you?  Do you typically play by the rules?  Break the rules?  Fall somewhere in between, when it comes to your home decor?  And how are you feeling about plaid this fall?

Hello, and welcome! I'm Adrianne, an artist, author, designer, and blogger in mid Michigan. I work from home, chase my two kids, and this once-city-girl is learning how to care for chickens and adjusting to life out in the country. I have a compulsion for daily creativity... sometimes it's jewelry-making, paper crafting, metal stamping, mixing and baking, or giving new life to recycled items. But with 2 young kids, time is short! My goal here at Happy Hour Projects is to share projects and tips that you can do in an hour or less. The ideas you find here are designed to add a little creativity in your day, no matter how much (or how little) time you have!
