Focusing on Healthy Eating with Tom’s of Maine Good First Facebook App

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Tom’s of Maine for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

A while back, Terry over at These Peas Taste Funny posted about the Wheel of Life.  How many of you completed a wheel in her series?  I loved the daily introspection on all the topics for creating a fulfilling lifestyle.  I’ve been working every day to do a little something in all the wheel categories.

I really like the Tom’s of Maine Good First application on Facebook for this very reason – the app asks you, “What did you put first today that made you feel especially good?”  There are five categories that reflect the company’s core beliefs that you can choose from:  Helping People, Helping Animals, Healthy Eating, Healthy Living, and Caring for Mother Earth.  I realized that it’s important to me to do all these things, and having the question right in front of me like that was a great reminder that every day, good people can do good things that make a difference.  What’s really cool about the app is that it shows you other friends who share your passion, and it awards you a badge for your Facebook timeline to spread the word about what’s important to you!

My passion lies largely in helping others.  That’s why I share free tutorials, instructions and patterns here on the blog.  It’s not the same as dedicated volunteerism, but I love being able to share the things I know so that others can create.

I decided to pick an area to focus on that is most neglected, though.  For me, that’s probably Healthy Eating.  Yeah, I confess.  It’s because I hate taking the time to cook. :P  But let me share with you a quick & healthy way to cook up veggies!

I hit up my local farmer’s market and picked up a zucchini and some summer squash.

All you need to do is wash them, slice the squashes about ½ inch thick, and toss them into the steamer basket.  Add a couple inches of water to the bottom of the pot, and bring it to a boil – let your veggies steam for anywhere from 5-10 minutes, depending on how crisp you like them.  I remove mine from the heat when the squash starts to turn clear, but before it loses its shape.  Sprinkle with a little seasoning  of your choice – a little salt is all I use!

Delicious!!  So, healthy eating really shouldn’t be such a challenge for me.  But the question sure made me think about it.  Be sure to check out Tom’s of Maine Good First application on Facebook for yourself, and you can also follow them on Twitter and Pinterest too!

What about you?  How do you try to do something good every day?  Leave a comment and let me know!

I really loved that app too. I LOVE summer squash. I made some just the other night just as u did. THEN I put it all into a casserole dish, added some seasoned bread crumbs, just a bit not too much and baked it at 350 for about 10 minutes. Just until the top was crisp. It was sooooo delicious!!

Eating healthy is always a challenge!! But recipes like this make it totally worth it!!
Every I try to be a good Mom. I know that's sounds silly to some, but with 2 little ones under the age of 3, patience can sometimes run thin. I know I will never be a perfect Mom, but I am ok with being a good one.
    Thanks for sharing this Adrianne!

Hello, and welcome! I'm Adrianne, an artist, author, designer, and blogger in mid Michigan. I work from home, chase my two kids, and this once-city-girl is learning how to care for chickens and adjusting to life out in the country. I have a compulsion for daily creativity... sometimes it's jewelry-making, paper crafting, metal stamping, mixing and baking, or giving new life to recycled items. But with 2 young kids, time is short! My goal here at Happy Hour Projects is to share projects and tips that you can do in an hour or less. The ideas you find here are designed to add a little creativity in your day, no matter how much (or how little) time you have!
