Halloween Crafts for Kids | Craft Stick Spiderwebs

Who’s ready for Halloween? We’ve got plenty going on with pumpkin carving, parties to attend, costumes to wear, and of course – Halloween crafts for kids.  These craft stick spiderwebs are easy to make and really inexpensive!  Kids are always proud of their handiwork, and you can hang them up, or place them in vignettes for easy decor.

I shared this post over at Crafts Unleashed (the consumer crafts blog) and it was a hit!  This year, I thought I’d dust it off and share here as well, in case you missed it the first time around.  I’ll leave links to the supplies needed below, in case you need to do any quick last-minute shopping!

  • 4.5 inch Wood Craft Sticks
  • Silver Paint and Paintbrush
  • Aleene’s Craft Glue
  • White Yarn
  • Plastic Spiders (I raided my fake cobwebs for a few)

I decided to paint my sticks so that they had a little shine to them.  You can leave them plain – or try colored crafts sticks and coordinating yarn!  Once they dried, I glued three together in the center to make my spiderweb form.

Once that dried, I cut a few 6-8 foot lengths of yarn.  I tied one end around the center of the form, and wrapped in each direction so that it looked even.

Next, I just wrapped the yarn around each spoke of the web form.  You’ll get a better effect if you wrap over the top of each stick rather than underneath.

Keep working your way around, making sure to space the yarn slightly apart – like a real spiderweb. When you fill the form out to the ends of your sticks, tie a knot.  You can cut off any excess.  The number of times you go around the form (and ultimately, the amount of yarn you use) will depend on your spacing.

Tie long strings on the ends to hang them, or trim the ends off to tuck them into corners!

Each spiderweb only takes about 5 minutes of active craft time, and you can set it aside in between painting and gluing.  You can also prep the craft stick forms ahead of time and let them dry if you’re planning to do this activity with impatient kids. :)

The combo of coconut oil and shea butter is the gold standard for creating a barrier that actually stays put. Hello, and welcome! I'm Adrianne, an artist, author, designer, and blogger in mid Michigan. I work from home, chase my two kids, and this once-city-girl is learning how to care for chickens and adjusting to life out in the country. I have a compulsion for daily creativity... sometimes it's jewelry-making, paper crafting, metal stamping, mixing and baking, or giving new life to recycled items. But with 2 young kids, time is short! My goal here at Happy Hour Projects is to share projects and tips that you can do in an hour or less. The ideas you find here are designed to add a little creativity in your day, no matter how much (or how little) time you have!
