How to Make a Jewelry Gift Box

Hey guys!  I know you’re used to seeing lots of jewelry around here, and today I’m sharing an easy way to wrap it up and give it as a gift.  This box can be die-cut and assembled in minutes using your Sizzix Big Shot, and it’s a great way to make your handmade gift look as great from the outside as it does on the inside.  Read on, and I’ll show you how to make a jewelry gift box out of scrapbook paper and a bit of glue!

If you read here often, you know that I love using my Sizzix Big Shot for paper crafts.  I love it so much that I’m even part of the Sizzix design team!  So as a part of that relationship, I get my hands on some of the new dies each month, and I get to share project ideas for using them!  I’ll leave affiliate links below, in case you’re itching to add any of these dies to your shopping list today.  (If you do make a purchase, be sure to use coupon code SZB2015 to save 15% off all your regular priced purchases from Sizzix.com.)

You will need:

  • Sizzix Big Shot, extended platform
  • Sizzix Extended Cutting Pads
  • Sizzix Bigz XL: Box & Card
  • Sizzix Bigz (with bonus Texture Fades folder): Fall Flowers
  • Sizzix Texture Fades: Courtyard embossing folder
  • Paper you love (try to use 65# or heavier)
  • Quick-dry Paper Glue
  • 1/16″ hole punch
  • Scissors
  • Washi Tape

First, die-cut your pieces.  The box is one piece, and the card that fits inside is one piece also.  You can make these the same or different, it’s up to you!  I made mine totally different.

When you decide which papers you’re using, set them over the shape areas on your Bigz dies.  Create your Sizzix “sandwich” by placing extended cutting pads on top and underneath, and roll it through the Sizzix Big Shot.  If you’re using the Fall Flowers die like I am, then die-cut that now as well.

Next, you can optionally emboss your inner card with your favorite design.  Take a moment to assemble your box with quick-dry glue.

Add any embellishments you like to your box.  Then, about 1/2 inch from the top 2 corners of your inner card, punch a 1/16″ hole.  This works great for handmade earrings!  If you’re planning to include a necklace instead, there’s one more step.

Cut a notch from the top of the card to the hole, and you can thread the chains of your necklace through these notches to rest in the holes.

If you are adding a necklace, then you can use washi tape to secure the excess chain to the card.  It won’t leave any residue, and it helps to hold your gift in place.

Finally, just add your card to the box!  It’s about the size of a deck of cards, but it makes a big impression.  Not only do you have a fabulous piece of handmade jewelry to give, but the box itself makes beautiful wrapping – no wrapping paper or gift bag necessary!

Hello, and welcome! I'm Adrianne, an artist, author, designer, and blogger in mid Michigan. I work from home, chase my two kids, and this once-city-girl is learning how to care for chickens and adjusting to life out in the country. I have a compulsion for daily creativity... sometimes it's jewelry-making, paper crafting, metal stamping, mixing and baking, or giving new life to recycled items. But with 2 young kids, time is short! My goal here at Happy Hour Projects is to share projects and tips that you can do in an hour or less. The ideas you find here are designed to add a little creativity in your day, no matter how much (or how little) time you have!
