Thank you DOVE® Dark Chocolate for sponsoring this post. My mom is going to love it!
Mother’s Day is right around the corner, and if you’re still trying to decide on an inexpensive yet thoughtful gift, I definitely encourage you to try your hand at making your own! If it just so happens that you are NOT terribly crafty, though – that’s okay. I’ve got a very easy gift idea for you today, using a paint-style treat bucket, two bags of Dove Dark Chocolate Promises, some envelope seals and a little bit of creative sentiment.
What makes this project special and uniquely your own to give to your mom is that each of the Dove Dark Chocolate Promises actually carry a promise to your mother. I used round envelope seals to print my promises to my mom, and stuck them to the bottoms of each of the chocolates.
Before I show off how cute they are, I have to explain. My mother is not the warm-fuzzy type. She’s not the nurturer. She’s the one who laughs too loud, tells jokes that make you blush, and is a hoot to be around. She’s full of sass! I couldnlt imagine having any other kind of mom. I’m sure that’s where I get it from… that said, sweet sentiments are, well, not our strong suit in this family.
In this bucket, I also promise not to point out any gray hairs, to serve her favorite wine, and to shut the door because I wasn’t raised in a barn. She’s going to get a kick out of these, seriously. I almost can’t wait for her to read them all!
I printed them on office supply labels. If you would like to download the template for my labels, you’re welcome to them! I have a sheet of sassy labels I geared specifically to my mom, and also a sheet of sweet labels, in case you’d rather promise your mother to count her among your blessings, or to be as good a mother as she was.
(Note, these template downloads are specific to Avery form 5247, just standard envelope seals, which fit perfectly on Dove Promises. You can open them and edit them in Word if you would like. This is not meant to be a tutorial on how to use your computer, your software or the templates – I’m offering the downloads for your chocolates as a convenience.) You can also easily hand-write your personalized promises to your mom, too – I just have terrible handwriting.
How to dress up your treat bucket:
- Get a paint can-style treat pail. I’ve seen them at consumercrafts.com and at Michaels.
- Wrap a little bit of burlap ribbon around it. Cut off just enough ribbon for the ends to overlap. You can tape it to the bucket while you work, if you want.
- Wrap some baker’s twine or hemp or cotton cord around the burlap a few times. Tie it in a bow.
- Attach a cute label. These little wooden butterfly clothespins are perfect! I used a silver marker to address it to my mom.
Finally, attach your personal promises to the bottoms of your Dove Promises and fill the can. This small size used a little over one full bag, so you’ll want probably 2 bags. Or more, if you’re having trouble deciding!
The Dove Dark Chocolate Promises come in 4 flavors – she can find a dark chocolate flavor as unique as she is. I used the new Sea Salt and Caramel, and Mint and Dark Chocolate Swirl flavors. Smooth Dark Chocolate and Dark Chocolate with Almonds are also available. You can get many of these flavors in large or small bars, too!
Now, you’ve got a classic chocolate gift, combined with a personalized sentiment (which is better than a box of candy and a card any day) – with very little fuss or prep. My kind of project.

OMG Adrianne, I absolutely LOVE this……I think I’ll be making this for my mom this May! ;)
Neat idea but my mother is no longer with me. I tried to open the labels just to read what you put on them but either I didn’ know what I was doing or it didn’t work for me. I am sure your mom will enjoy them.
We like Dove Chocolate- the Dark kind. Cute project!
