New Year Goofiness: Edible Photo Props

Today’s craft is a little off-the-wall, but was a HUGE hit at our house.  For your New Year’s Eve gathering, you’re sure to take lots of photos, right?  Well – everyone can enjoy these chocolate mustache pops to go along with your party hats for an edible photo prop!

Edible Mustache Photo Props

I found this mustache pop mold at Hobby Lobby (though I bet Michael’s might have them too?) and picked up some candy melts and lollipop sticks to make them up.

For the four pops, I only used about 1 cup of melts, so you will have plenty leftover or you can easily make up a few batches out of one bag of melts.

If you haven’t used melts in molds before, it’s really easy.  I just add my melts to a mug and microwave them according to the package directions.  You just want to check and stir them often – after 30 seconds, and every 15 seconds after that.  As soon as all the lumps are have melted and are gone, you can just spoon the melts into the cavities, then add the sticks to them.  It will look a little lumpy at first, so you can just gently bang it out flat on the counter until you have a nice smooth surface over your melts.

They will have to set for at least 30 minutes.  I left mine out for about an hour.  If you’re in a hurry you can speed the process up by setting them in the frig.  Then, just give the mold a gentle twist, the pops will, well, pop right out. ;)

Then, you can wrap them up for later with a plastic baggie and a bit of ribbon.

Your models will just love them!

I don’t know who had more fun, honestly – Raya…

Or Kevin?

My kiddo doesn’t normally eat cake or candy (or really much of anything, but that’s a story for another post) but she actually enjoyed nibbling on her pop!

I hope you all have a great night celebrating, and a wonderful new year!

Hello, and welcome! I'm Adrianne, an artist, author, designer, and blogger in mid Michigan. I work from home, chase my two kids, and this once-city-girl is learning how to care for chickens and adjusting to life out in the country. I have a compulsion for daily creativity... sometimes it's jewelry-making, paper crafting, metal stamping, mixing and baking, or giving new life to recycled items. But with 2 young kids, time is short! My goal here at Happy Hour Projects is to share projects and tips that you can do in an hour or less. The ideas you find here are designed to add a little creativity in your day, no matter how much (or how little) time you have!
