Art, 3-Ingredient Recipes, and Good News For Spring

04/29/2014 by Adrianne Surian 2 Comments

Good morning, friends!  Things have been awfully busy at my house this year.  This week I’m trying to get accepted into Artprize 2014, which is a huge art event where I live.  I’ve been working in my entry since January, and it’s finally finished and registered, and I’m currently looking for a venue for the fall!

I know I mentioned earlier in the year, too, that my husband has been sick.  I certainly appreciate the well-wishes some of you have sent – he’s doing so much better!  It turns out he just has a gluten intolerance and some minor liver issues, so with an overhaul to his diet, he’s finally back on track, for the most part.

Changing how we eat has been… a challenge.  To say the least.  You all know I’m all about convenience – saving time is huge for me!  Going gluten free in this day and age is a lot easier than it used to be, but it’s still taken quite a bit of adjusting, because nearly all those things that come in boxes to make your life easier are off-limits for him now.

Rest assured – this is not going to become a gluten-free blog now.  In fact, I was worried about balancing that with what I already do, because I share so much of what I’m making with you guys.  So – I talked my husband into starting a new blog with me!  It’s called Gluten Free Dad at www.glutenfreedad.net, and the focus is on normal, everyday recipes, all of which also happen to be gluten-free.  I’m sharing a recipe over there today, if you’d like to take a peek at what it’s all about!  It’s a 3-ingredient spring salad.  (See – I’m still finding ways to keep it simple.)  It’s an instant classic in our house.  I could eat it ALL the time, haha.

I’ll still be around here, of course!  I’ve got plenty of projects in the works.  But it’s not as often that I share what’s going on with my family, it’s usually just how-to’s.  This is our year, in a nutshell.

My kids are getting huge.  Raya just cut her own hair the other day, that was an adventure.  I know all kids do it, but I thought we had a few years, haha.  Thank goodness for great stylists, though – the only change you can see is that she’s got bangs now.  And my son is getting into everything he can reach!  I’m excited about sharing a little more on my kids in a 2-post series next week.

It’s been an exciting couple of months – plenty of ups and downs, that’s for sure.  We’re hoping to keep things going on the upswing, if we can. :)

So – how it 2014 treating you so far?

I’m glad your husband is feeling better and that you found out what was causing it! I will definitely be joining that blog, as both of my daughters are gluten sensitive. It is quite the diet change, that is for sure! Best wishes for the new blog and see ya there!

Hello, and welcome! I'm Adrianne, an artist, author, designer, and blogger in mid Michigan. I work from home, chase my two kids, and this once-city-girl is learning how to care for chickens and adjusting to life out in the country. I have a compulsion for daily creativity... sometimes it's jewelry-making, paper crafting, metal stamping, mixing and baking, or giving new life to recycled items. But with 2 young kids, time is short! My goal here at Happy Hour Projects is to share projects and tips that you can do in an hour or less. The ideas you find here are designed to add a little creativity in your day, no matter how much (or how little) time you have!
