Today’s hour-or-less sweet holiday treat and craft is sponsored by The Hershey Company.
Every year I wait for it: the official-unofficial-start-of-summer. Memorial Day weekend! We spend the holiday weekend getting ready for deck weather and celebrating our veterans with a parade and an annual barbecue. It’s a low-key celebration with a dozen or so people, meat on the grill, summer salads and a few patriotic treats. I whipped up these easy Twizzlers Twists Treat bags to share with you today.
Twizzlers Twists are a classic treat, and they’ve been one of our go-to treats for the summer since I was a kid because they don’t melt! I still remember family road trips with a bag of Twizzlers Twists, and when I have one, it still reminds me of being a kid. I’d love for my kids to have some of those same experiences with some #TwizzlersSummerFun memories.
These easy treat bags can be as simple or as elaborate as you like. I’ll share how I put mine together, and then you can take the idea and run with it, and make it your own, if you want to! Here’s what you’ll need:
- Family-sized bag of Twizzlers Twists
- Plastic pretzel treat bags (or any slim treat bag at least 9 3/4 inches long)
- Baker’s twine
- Red, white, and blue card stock
- Die-cutting machine or scissors
- Temporary hold double-sided tape and/or glue dots
- Optional: patriotic embossing folder to add texture to your topper shapes
- Optional: embossing ink, glitter powder, and heat tool to add sparkle and shine
I used metal dies to cut lots of star shapes from my card stock, and created a wrap-around star themed topper. To make the wrap-around star, score and fold your card stock, and set the die so that the edge is just slightly over the folded edge. This will create two stars attached to each other at the side point.
Decorate the stars by embossing, layering, distressing, or inking to suit your style! I embossed a few of the stars with an embossing folder and then layered three shapes in red, white, and blue together. I also wanted to add a bit of shine, so I dampened the whole star topper with embossing ink, sprinkled it with glitter, and used my heat tool to set it. Because these paper toppers will be near food, I would only recommend glitter or other textures that have been inked or embossed on. Spray glitter shouldn’t go near food items when you can help it, and you don’t want loose glitter getting on your treats!
Add 3-4 Twizzlers Twists to each bag, and tie them off with baker’s twine. Finally, add double-sided tape to both insides of the star, and close it around the top of the plastic bag. You can personalize the stars to make party favors or even place settings, if you like, or set them out in a rectangular basket for your party guests to help themselves!
Twizzlers also features a patriotic Pull-N-Peel variety with red, white, and blue for another long-lasting fruity treat option, and the family sized bag of Twizzlers Twists is resealable for any kind of on-the-go activity, like a road trip, picnic, or party.
I’m really looking forward to some #HersheysSummer fun this year, and if you’re looking for some more great crafts and recipes with Twizzlers Twists and the other Hershey products, just visit the CelebrateWithHersheys.com website!
