Join Us For Crafty Hour!

03/14/2014 by Adrianne Surian 2 Comments

Good morning!  It’s Friday and I stayed up way too late reading last night.  The weather is decidedly spring-ish, and I have a fun bit of news to share with you all about something my good friend Tara at Suburble and I have been working on!  It’s a pretty great day, overall!

Oh, but first – happy PI DAY!  It’s 3.14.  If you want a fabulous pie recipe to make to celebrate today, let me share the favorites in our house.  My Dutch Apple Pie is {pardon my pride, here} the BEST.  It’s my absolute favorite.  Or if fruit pies aren’t really your thing, you could also whip up some easy Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie!  That’s the one my family requests.  (To get to the recipes, just click the image below.) NOM.

All right – now onto the news!  See, Tara and I have talked about how nice it would be if we could just get together and craft.  But one time I looked it up, and she lives like, 2,500 miles away.  The internet brings us crafty people together, which is awesome!  But geography still makes it tough to get together for a Friday night girls’ night.

So, brainstorm!  We started using Google+ hangouts.  And we LOVE it!  We have a cocktail, we craft, we fail, we swear a little, we chase our kids on occasion.  We laugh, we talk technique, life, and gossip a little.  And we want to invite YOU to join us!  You can bring whatever work-in-progress you’ve got going, or use our supply list and tackle the featured project we’re working on.  It’s a one hour craft-along, with live Q & A.

If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, here’s what you need to know:

Crafty Hour

WHAT: CRAFTY HOUR!  It’s crafts, it’s cocktails, and it’s community, all in the comfort of your own home.  We are going to kick off the hour with a cocktail recipe, and work on a craft that takes less than an hour.  We will also have a special giveaway each session!

WHEN: 8pm EST/5pm PST on the 2nd and 4th Fridays each month.  The first Crafty Hour will be on March 28th.

WHERE: Live on G+ hangouts!  To fill the time between and to learn exactly how to connect every other Friday, you can join the Facebook group we’ve created.  Get to know each other there if you like, and stop by for updates and plans for upcoming sessions.

WHO: YOU, if it sounds like your kind of thing.  You do NOT have to have a blog, you do NOT have to be a pro – in fact, beginners may benefit the most from crafting along and asking questions if they have any!  We’re not pros either, just creative enthusiasts.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT: Here’s the lowdown.

On our first session on 3/28, we’re going to show you how to make a classic Cosmopolitan martini.  (This is my favorite cocktail!)  It’s totally optional and if you’re not inclined to have a drink with us, no worries!  The cocktail portion takes the first 5-10 minutes, so you can tune in for that, or take that time to gather your project supplies.

Supplies and Ingredients:

  • Martini glass, shaker tin, and some ice
  • Vodka (a citrus flavor is nice, but not necessary)
  • Cointreau or Triple Sec
  • Cranberry Juice
  • Lime Juice (I recommend Rose’s Sweetend Lime Juice/Lime Cordial, though fresh lime is fine)
  • Citrus wedge (lemon, lime, or orange) for a twist garnish, because we’re going to show you how to serve it up bartender-style

Then, we’ll be moving on to the craft, which is a Memory Wire Bracelet.

Memory Wire Bracelet

If you want to make one, bring these supplies:

  • Bracelet-sized Memory Wire
  • Round-nosed pliers
  • Wire Cutters or Memory Wire Shears
  • Beads you love – mine are a mix of silver 45mm tube beads, 6x8mm oval turquoise howlite beads, and 8x4mm rondelle bone beads, and some 4mm square silver spacer beads.  You can pick up similar beads or choose another type that suits your style!  I would recommend at least spacer beads and choosing beads under 8mm for size.

These are just the highlights of what we’re cooking up because I don’t want to overwhelm you with the details, so if you’re intrigued or if you’ve got questions, come join the Facebook group and ask us there, leave a comment on this post, or email us at craftyhour@gmail.com.

RECAP FOR THE SKIMMERS:

Join the Crafty Hour Facebook group and make some friends, gather your supplies, and tune in the 2nd and 4th Fridays starting March 28th for a G+ craft-along with LIVE Q & A with your hostesses, Tara and Adrianne!  It’s crafting, cocktails, and community.  We will be rolling out a related newsletter soon, you can sign up for that to get reminders twice a month for the next live project and giveaway!  Can’t wait to see you there!

Hello, and welcome! I'm Adrianne, an artist, author, designer, and blogger in mid Michigan. I work from home, chase my two kids, and this once-city-girl is learning how to care for chickens and adjusting to life out in the country. I have a compulsion for daily creativity... sometimes it's jewelry-making, paper crafting, metal stamping, mixing and baking, or giving new life to recycled items. But with 2 young kids, time is short! My goal here at Happy Hour Projects is to share projects and tips that you can do in an hour or less. The ideas you find here are designed to add a little creativity in your day, no matter how much (or how little) time you have!
